“You have to enjoy it,” Max Verstappen comes up with words of wisdom for 2023 F1 debutant Logan Sargeant
Max Verstappen and Logan Sargeant
Logan Sargeant has got a racing seat at Williams for next year, and the 2022 F1 World Champion, Max Verstappen has come up with some advice for the American.
Max Verstappen feels that being on a team that is not fighting for Championships, is actually a good thing for a rookie driver.
While relating his experience to what Logan Sargeant will go through in 2023, Verstappen has said, “Above all, you have to enjoy it.”
“He will soon be part of a team where he will not immediately compete for victories, but that is actually good. In the first year, you don’t need that and maybe you shouldn’t even want it.”
“Everyone wants to win, but it’s not a requirement if you barely have any experience.“
Moreover, while talking about his experience of joining Toro Rosso in 2015, he further added, “I could just build up experience there. You are allowed to make mistakes because no one really pays attention.“
“You learn a lot in your first year. You don’t have to put too much pressure on yourself, because it’s just a fantastic opportunity.”
Max Verstappen’s take on his Red Bull F1 debut
Max Verstappen arrived in F1 with Toro Rosso(AlphaTuri), but during his rookie season, did enough to convince the hierarchy at Red Bull that he deserved a seat on the team for 2016.
Racing for Red Bull was a huge moment for him, and while looking back at it, he added, “I can remember that I had to travel an incredible amount because I had to go to the simulator in Milton Keynes.”
“Many people disagreed with the decision to put me forward because I was too young. I just got in the car and I knew it would be a learning process. In the end, it was very hard.”
Max Verstappen has in no way tried to sugarcoat how difficult it was for him during his first season with the mighty Red Bull F1 team.
Moreover, considering that Logan Sargeant will make his F1 debut next year, it is not going to be a walk in the park for the American.
Doing a few FP sessions does not bring the kind of pressure that having a full racing seat does. How well do you think Sargeant would be able to present himself against the established drivers of F1?
