At a time when McLaren racer Daniel Ricciardo desperately needs to put in some good performances in the Grands Prix to secure his future in Formula 1 for the next few seasons, the Australian seems to be drifting farther away from his goal of getting a few race wins in 2022. While Lando Norris, his teammate, performed exceptionally well in the same car and came 6th in the British Grand Prix, Ricciardo could hardly move into the points momentarily before dropping to the thirteenth spot again.

While Daniel Ricciardo has claimed to be confident enough about his pace to not lend an ear to the concerns of many that he might have to retire from F1 next year to seek a seat at IndyCar, the 33-year-old still seems far off from assuring his fans that he has still got it in him to win a couple of Grands Prix and get some good points for his team.

After the British Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo sat down for a conversation where he seemed uncharacteristically miffed as he could not demystify his lack of pace at Silverstone.

As an eight-time F1 Grand Prix winner, it was an ignominious situation for Daniel Ricciardo to be stuck at the bottom of the grid, being asked to unlap his car when the yellow flag was called in towards the last quarter of the British Grand Prix. The Australian qualified in the fourteenth position and he could only make up one spot in the final race as his teammate Lando Norris remained in P6.

While speaking of his lack of pace in the British GP, Daniel Ricciardo said, “Zero pace–a little bit like Barcelona where I didn’t seem to operate at the same level of grip as the cars around me. I could just feel it through the tyres as well, trying to carry speed.

He continued, “Obviously a little bit confused by that at the moment. It’s clear what I felt, but the reasons why, I’m obviously not sure. It was just a bit odd, so we have a bit of investigating to do. Hopefully we find some answers because obviously it’s a quick turnaround to Austria.”
