For a change, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez had a solid outing during yesterday’s Spa-Francorchamps qualifying session. Perez has been under the pump since the last few events and his recent quali outing has come as a bit of a relief to him as well as the Red Bull F1 team.
McLaren’s Oscar Piastri has also taken note of this and has thus, urged Sergio Perez to bring the fight starting from P2 on the grid in the Belgian GP. The former will start the race from fifth place and feels it is in Perez’s best interest to have a solid outing in the 44-lap event.
In recent times, the 34-year-old has been linked with several Red Bull exit rumors.
Obviously, we're in a fight with Red Bull in the constructors', and Max is leading the world championship in the drivers' standings. So of course I expect Checo [Perez] to put up a fight, I think even for his own sake. It's not been the easiest run for him and I think of course, more than anyone, he probably wants a really good result for himself.Oscar Piastri via Speedcafe
The young Australian via his comments, has indirectly referred to the dicey situation Perez is currently in at Red Bull. Liam Lawson and Daniel Ricciardo have been heavily linked with taking over Perez’s seat in the near future.
Lando Norris feels Sergio Perez will have ‘defensive mindset’ during Belgian GP
While Piastri has backed Perez to go gung-ho during the 44-lap Spa-Francorchamps race, the Australian’s teammate Lando Norris, thinks otherwise. The Brit believes Perez will have a defensive approach during the race.
Moreover, he feels Max Verstappen would come charging from the back (P11).
For our race against Max, we have to get past all of them. I know Checo potentially will have a bit more of a defensive mindset than the others.Lando Norris via Speedcafe
There are four different teams in the first four starting positions for the Belgian Grand Prix. Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes (Lewis Hamilton), and McLaren (Lando Norris) are all up at the front. Keeping this in view, the dash to Turn 1 on the first lap of the race will be an extremely tricky one.
All the drivers will be jostling for positions and it will be fascinating to see who would come out leading the race going toward the famous Eau-Rouge section. Almost all drivers from the top four teams will have a chance of triumphing in the 44-lap race.
