Lando Norris has been having an incredibly fruitful time behind the wheel of the MCL38. He is a genuine contender for the 2024 title against Max Verstappen and seeing the former’s progress, renowned Top Gear presenter, Hammond has come forward to applaud the Brit.
The ongoing campaign has reached its halfway mark with the culmination of the British Grand Prix. 12 races are remaining on the calendar and as things stand, Lando Norris is 84 points behind Max Verstappen in the driver’s standings.
Hammond feels the 24-year-old is up for the fight against the three-time world champion.
You want drivers snapping at each other's heels. He is fulfilling that role, and doing it incredibly well. He is young, energetic and hungry as hell.Hammond said at Goodwood Festival of Speed, reported by Racingnews365
Looking at the reaction of the pundit, it is quite clear that in his opinion, Norris is gunning for the 2024 Driver’s World Championship. McLaren has the car to support their driver and the battle between Norris and Verstappen will only get more intense!
Max Verstappen deemed as an ‘astonishing’ talent
While Hammond has showered praise on the McLaren driver, he has also taken the time to acknowledge the might of Max Verstappen. The Dutchman has amassed seven wins in the races that have taken place so far this year.
Moreover, he is the sole reason why Red Bull is leading the Constructors Championship.
Max is an astonishing talent. I love to see a natural driver and there's a degree to which people can learn and do it in training or practice, but then sometimes there is just natural talent that is there.Hammond said in the same interview
The 2024 season has surprisingly, witnessed quite a few drivers who have stepped onto the top step of the podium. Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton was the latest to join the list and considering how close the competition is this year, Norris and Verstappen can’t afford to breathe easy against the other drivers. The duo will be required to be at their top game if they want to keep leading the standings while tussling against each other.
