Fernando Alonso has been operating at a supreme level since returning to the pinnacle of motor racing. Moreover, since joining Aston Martin, he has kicked things up a notch and has regularly been fighting at the north end of the grid.
Several esteemed personalities have taken note of Fernando Alonso‘s might and the most recent to join the list is none other than Sergio Perez‘s father, Antonio Perez. The latter is a huge admirer of the 42-year-old driver.
Alonso also recently signed a new multi-year deal with the Aston Martin F1 team.
Right now, we are seeing the best Alonso. He is in the best moment of his sporting career. Why? Because he does not have the best car and yet he is fighting with the strongest. When he was the champion he had the best car. The same could be applied to Max.Antonio Perez said in an interview with Marca
The 2023 season proved extremely fruitful for the two-time world champion. He was on it from the get-go in the AMR23 and because of this, was able to score a truckload of points alongside several podium finishes. He has also started the ongoing campaign in a strong fashion as well.
Antonio Perez hopes for Sergio Perez to surpass Max Verstappen
While Perez Sr. has not left any stone unturned in praising Max Verstappen, he one day hopes for his son to get the better of the Dutchman. Sergio joined Red Bull in 2021 but is yet to win a world championship against Verstappen.
Under the current set of regulations, the 26-year-old has won two titles consecutively.
If you ask me who I would like as a teammate for Checo, I would say that I prefer him to be the best in the world. So Checo is the second best and I hope one day he surpasses Max and I would have an F1 world champion son.Antonio Perez said in the same interview
Antonio Perez is an adored figure around F1 and just like every father, wants the best for his son. However, keeping in view the kind of form that Max Verstappen has shown since winning his maiden world championship, it seems highly unlikely that he will be stopped by Sergio Perez anytime soon. Moreover, the latter’s current deal with Red Bull is up at the end of the ongoing season. The 34-year-old is fighting for his career in F1.
