The Sergio Perez 2025 contract extension saga has been taking new turns every day. He’s been rumored to be extremely close to a 1-year extension with Red Bull but amidst all this, Dutch racer, Tom Coronel has surprisingly asked Perez to relinquish his spot on the team.

Sergio Perez has been making his trade with the Milton-Keynes-based team since 2021. He has outlasted Max Verstappen‘s several other teammates but, with there being a few good options in the driver market for 2025, people have been wondering whether Perez is the right choice.

The ongoing campaign has so far proved pretty up and down for the Mexican driver.

It’s the same every time. The problem is, [Christian] Horner very much wants to keep Perez, that’s my feeling. He has an extra cap on, there is no other way. Otherwise that would have changed a long time ago. I would also say to Perez, thank you for your services. You are very good, but it has been enough. Done, you just have to give up your spot.
Tom Coronel said in an interview with racingnews365

Looking at the reaction of the Dutch racer, it seems that he’s had enough of Perez at Red Bull. Coronel genuinely believes it is just about the right time for Christian Horner and Co. to look at someone else for 2025. The lights of Yuki Tsunoda, Carlos Sainz, and Daniel Ricciardo have all been linked with the Red Bull seat.

Red Bull needs Sergio Perez firing on all cylinders in 2024

While Perez’s F1 future beyond 2024 is up in the air, the Red Bull boss recently stressed the importance of the former getting back in form. In the first six races, the 34-year-old performed really well alongside his prolific teammate.

The title fight is extremely close this year and Horner wants Perez to get back to his top form.

Checo's first six races he was very strong. He was qualifying on the front row finishing second and third, and scoring very well. We just need to get him back into that position of confidence and not see a dip.
Christian Horner said in an interview with Sky Sports

The ongoing campaign is eight rounds down and Ferrari is breathing down Red Bull’s neck. The gap between the two outfits is only 24 points and thus, Horner wants both his drivers to be putting in consistent performances. Keeping everything in view, the next few races could make or break Perez’s career.
