Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has shared his thoughts on the rumors of Max Verstappen signing for his team. The Dutchman is currently on a contract with Red Bull until the end of the 2028 season.

Max Verstappen is one of the most talented drivers in Formula 1 right now. The 27-year-old’s skill and perseverance have compelled many teams to pursue signing the three-time world champion. He leads the Drivers’ Championship this season as well.

Toto Wolff has, however, claimed that the Silver Arrows are currently focused on their own drivers rather than going after outsiders. He claimed that the team will only seek alternatives in case their present drivers fail to deliver.

We have to trust Antonelli and Russell. It’s essential to focus on making the relationship work, not flirting outside. If things don’t go well and I want change, then I talk to other options. Verstappen thinks the same way.

Toto Wolff said

Verstappen has reassured the grid that he wished to stay with the Milton Keynes-based team despite attractive offers from others. The last six races will now be a stern test for him in coping with the hardships of the RB20.

Ex-F1 racer shares his thoughts on Max Verstappen’s swearing saga

Former British motorsports racer Johnny Herbert was a steward at the Singapore GP last month. Herbert emphasized Max Verstappen’s rebellious side while delivering his take on the Dutchman’s protest against swearing.

Herbert opposed Verstappen’s use of colorful language while at the pinnacle of motorsports. He said that the sport already involved a fair amount of swearing, which might be a bad influence on their young audience.

It all blew up afterwards because he went to the press conference and gave one-word answers then held his own impromptu press conference outside in the paddock. That showed Max’s rebellious streak. I love that side of him, it is what makes Max, Max, his honest and outspoken character. But there is a time and a place. Personally, I think there is too much swearing. I don’t want my five-year-old grandchild listening to that sort of language.

Verstappen refused to answer questions properly at press conferences as a protest against the FIA at the Singapore Grand Prix. The FIA had reprimanded Verstappen to do community service and urged him not to swear in the future.
