Mercedes struggled in F1’s ground-effect era. The Silver Arrows had managed to win just a single race in the past two seasons. However, things have changed this year, with Toto Wolff‘s squad already bagging three wins. Nevertheless, Wolff made it clear that the team needed to stay realistic despite its recent success.
Toto Wolff asserted that the team needs to keep both its feet on the ground when it comes to the last 10 races of the season. Although, the Austrian billionaire highlighted that the swing of performance was positive for Mercedes in recent weeks.
I think we need to remain both feet on the ground. The swings of performance, you see a trend, definitely that's positive on our side.Toto Wolff said, as reported by RacingNews365
On the other hand, Wolff pinpointed that many teams were facing a negative trend in performance. The Mercedes boss did not name any team in particular, although he could be hinting at Red Bull and Ferrari. Toto Wolff made it clear that this trend was not fully indicative of how the second half of the 2024 season would pan out.
With some other teams, you see a negative If trend, but I don't think we should really pre-empt how the second half of the season is gonna go.Toto Wolff stated
Toto Wolff claims top 4 teams ‘giving it everything’ in 2024
The 2024 F1 season has witnessed a stellar contest between the top teams. 7 different drivers have won a race this season, with only Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton winning more than one. Toto Wolff admitted that the top 4 teams were pushing to the limit in this tough title fight. The Mercedes boss claimed that his team could be carefully optimistic over its chances.
I think it's a tough fight. There's four teams ahead, that keep giving it everything. So, I think we can be carefully optimistic. But, we gotta prove it - there's 10 races to go.Toto Wolff asserted
Certainly, Toto Wolff and Mercedes have made a great recovery in the last few rounds. The Silver Arrows even won two consecutive races this year. However, Wolff’s squad will undoubtedly face stiff competition from Red Bull and McLaren after the summer break. Fans would hope to see Hamilton and Wolff celebrate a title victory together for the last time this year.
