Lewis Hamilton shocked the sporting world at the start of 2024. The seven-time world champion announced that he would be leaving Mercedes to join Ferrari next season. Toto Wolff and the Silver Arrows were caught off-guard by Hamilton’s decision. However, it seems that Wolff has made his peace with the Briton’s decision.

Toto Wolff made it clear that he had no regrets over Hamilton leaving Mercedes. The Austrian billionaire emphasized that the Silver Arrows had always been transparent with the Briton. Moreover, Wolff praised Lewis Hamilton for putting himself in the team’s shoes to understand their perspective on any issue.

No. We decided as a team for that and we were always very transparent with Lewis, and the good thing with him is he is able to put himself in your position and understood where we were coming from.

Toto Wolff claims Lewis Hamilton could ‘reinvent’ himself at Ferrari

Lewis Hamilton had struggled at the start of the ground-effect era with Mercedes machinery. Subsequently, Wolff suggested that perhaps this move would be good for the Briton. The Austrian billionaire hinted that Hamilton might’ve wanted to reinvent himself after spending over a decade at Brackley.

It was also for the good of him to change. This was the longest run between a driver and a team. It was 12 years overall. And maybe he needed to, in a way, change and reinvent himself.
Toto Wolff explained

Certainly, Lewis Hamilton’s switch to the Scuderia was a blow for Mercedes. However, the team has forged a path for its future with 18-year-old Kimi Antonelli. Toto Wolff would be looking to end his journey with Hamilton on a high note this year.
