Lando Norris‘ remarkable start to the 2025 season has placed him at the top of the drivers’ championship standings after achieving over 77 points. The Briton is leading the pack with his teammate Oscar Piastri trailing by just three points. Norris remained optimistic about his chances to further extend the lead heading into the Saudi Arabian GP. However, the qualifying session ended in a nightmare for the 25-year-old as he crashed his chassis in the Q3 session. Still, he was spotted being jolly and walking to the McLaren motorhome while giggling with the team’s CEO, Zak Brown.

Lando Norris is known for being too critical of himself after making mistakes while racing on the grid. The Briton has still minimized errors to the best of his capabilities ever since the beginning of the 2025 season. Notably, the crash in the qualifying session was his first incident this year. The team remained extremely thoughtful and patient on the team radio and was not disappointed with the crash. Moreover, even Zak Brown was unfazed by the crash and did not ruin his mood.

Oscar Piastri achieved a front-row start for the Saudi Arabian GP, which might have alleviated the pressure of Norris’ crash to a great extent. The after-effects of the crash, especially the self-loathing from the Briton, seemed to have cooled down as he was smiling. Brown, alongside Norris, enjoyed a delightful walk to the McLaren motorhome after the latter walked out of the chassis unhurt. Moreover, the 25-year-old is starting the race in P10, which puts him in a great spot for scoring great points.

Lando Norris labels himself a ‘f***ing idiot’ after disastrous qualifying crash

Lando Norris did not hold back from criticizing his shortcomings heavily from the car itself. The challenger seemed to have sustained great damage, especially on the left side. As such, the team might have to work overnight on the car and fix it as soon as possible. Norris was questioned regarding his injuries from the crash, if any. The 25-year-old immediately clarified that he was alright from the crash and did not face any major problems.

Norris claimed that he was okay and was not injured after the crash. The race engineer immediately assured that it was the only thing the team was concerned about at the moment. Still, the 25-year-old decided to throw in an abuse-filled comment towards himself and the situation he was in. The Briton branded himself as a ‘fu**ing idiot’ following the incident. Regardless, the Englishman walked out unhurt from the crash and enjoyed a great moment with Zak Brown.

Yeah I’m OK, ******* idiot

Lando Norris said on the team radio

Following the crash and a P10 start, Lando Norris will have to work extra hard to move up the pecking order. Max Verstappen is the pole sitter who is likely to defend his position with all his might. Moreover, Oscar Piastri and George Russell look promising of a victory contention on Sunday. Hence, Norris might miss out on the win if he does not give it his all from the get-go.

The McLaren challenger is still seemingly the fastest on the grid as his hunt for the win would ease up. Time will tell about how the race pans out for the 25-year-old, especially after he crashed out during the final stages of qualifying.
