McLaren Boss Andrea Stella claims Lando Norris is ‘very harsh on himself’ when it comes to his F1 performance

The start to the recently-ended F1 2023 season was quite a troublesome one for McLaren’s Lando Norris and debut racer Oscar Piastri. The Australian youngster could not even finish his first race as a papaya recruit since he had to DNF in Bahrain. But the team saw a huge improvement in their results come the British GP where Lando scored a P2 finish and Piastri was close to grabbing a podium for himself. Their streak of good performances finally got them the fourth place in the Constructors’ Championship.

But Lando Norris is yet to receive his first Grand Prix victory in Formula One despite being in the sport for four long years. The Briton came close to achieving the feat on several occasions through the course of 2023, but he still remained short of grabbing the title. And in Abu Dhabi, Lando Norris admitted he had done a ‘shit job’ at the Qualifiers in 2023. He could not even get pole position at the grand finale of the recent F1 season because of his one mistake.

Lando Norris’ self critical attitude has made McLaren come in to support their star racer. They have reportedly taken the tennis path to support him using the ‘entourage’ given to the tennis players. Now, Team Principal Andrea Stella has talked about how they are helping Norris target for consistency rather than top results.

Certainly, even the way he [Lando Norris] addresses his own performance I think deserves attention because he just seems very harsh on himself. Sometimes we need to focus on the positives. There's quite a lot of positives and we need to make sure that we look into that, and we make the negatives in a way be functional to perform, not simply to punish yourself.

Andrea Stella commented, according to Motorsport.com.

Lando Norris sets his eyes on the win in 2024 with McLaren

Even though Lando is yet to win a Grand Prix in Formula 1, he is regarded as one of the most skilled young racers on the grid. He has gathered some great podium finishes for himself in 2023, and he believes a win is coming his way next year. Thus, when asked about his chances in the McLaren machine of 2024, he seemed quite optimistic at a recent interview.

100 per cent, because it’s going to be next year, and I’m with McLaren next year, I feel like we’re so close.

In other news, Lando also said he believes McLaren are in the strongest place at the end of 2023 than they have been in the past decade. He also talked about the British outfit getting enough wind tunnel time to properly develope their car for the next year’s Championship campaign where they should get a win for sure.
