Lewis Hamilton is arguably the most popular driver in Formula 1. Hamilton has rewritten the sport’s history over the years, winning a grand total of 7 F1 world championships. Lewis also holds the records for the most F1 wins and pole positions at 103 each. Thus, it is no surprise that Hamilton got knighted at the end of 2021. The Brit officially became Sir Lewis Hamilton just days after losing out the 2021 F1 championship.

Lewis Hamilton was knighted by the then-Prince of Wales, Prince Charles at Windsor Castle. Prince Charles was recently crowned as the King of the United Kingdom after the tragic death of Queen Elizabeth II in September of last year. King Charles III is the oldest heir to accede to the British throne at the age of 73. Hamilton even had the privilege to meet Charles III several years ago at the McLaren Headquarters in Woking at just 13 years of age.

The ceremony took place on December 15, 2021, and was attended by Hamilton’s mother, Carmen Larbalestier. Lewis Hamilton even included Carmen’s maiden name in respect of his mother at the start of 2022. Lewis is the fourth F1 driver to receive a knighthood, following Sir Jackie Stewart, Sir Sterling Moss, and Sir Jack Brabham. Hamilton was officially recognized in the 2020 New Year’s Honours list for his outstanding achievements and contribution to motorsports.

Lewis Hamilton had a mediocre 2022 F1 season after struggling to get to grips with the Mercedes W13. The porpoising issues made matters worse for the Silver Arrows. This led to Hamilton having his worst campaign in Formula 1, as the now 38-year-old failed to win a single Grand Prix. Lewis’s new teammate, George Russell was quicker to adapt to the new car and even outperformed the veteran driver last season.

However, Lewis Hamilton is known for the famous phrase. ‘Still I Rise.’ As such, Hamilton will be looking to bounce back in the oncoming F1 season with the Silver Arrows. Previously, critics have argued that Lewis might fall behind the newer F1 talent. But the British driver is determined to get back to winning ways in 2023. Lewis will be looking to prove to the paddock that he really is one of the all-time greats.

Hence, the oncoming F1 season will certainly be interesting for Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes. The pair has delivered immense success in the past with 6 drivers’ titles and 8 constructors’ titles to show. Team boss, Toto Wolff is confident about Mercedes’s competitiveness this year alongside Hamilton’s pace for years to come. As such, we are really excited to see what this successful pairing will showcase at the season opener in Saudi Arabia.
