Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will be making one of the biggest driver moves in F1 history in 2025. As the 39-year-old finally fulfills his childhood dream of racing for Scuderia Ferrari. However, the Italian team already has Charles Leclerc as its star driver.
Leclerc is the only driver in Ferrari’s history to receive a five-year contract extension, something that even Michael Schumacher failed to achieve. This shows that Maranello is built around the Monegasque driver. With Lewis Hamilton’s arrival expected to shake things up.
Ferrari has had a history of focusing on just one driver in the past. Be it Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, or Sebastian Vettel, all have been given number 1 status. Thus, the question arises in the minds of the Tifosi, will Ferrari manage Hamilton and Leclerc equally in 2025?
Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc ready to go head-to-head
Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur has stated that Charles Leclerc was ready to have Hamilton as his teammate. Vasseur has remained confident publicly over the dynamics between the two drivers. Moreover, Leclerc has even mentioned that he knows he can match the Briton at the Scuderia.
For Lewis Hamilton, racing for Ferrari is an emotional move. The seven-time world champion wants to end his career with the Prancing Horse, hopefully with another world title. The Briton has not raised any concerns over partnering Leclerc.
On the surface, things seem to be simple. Ferrari will likely provide equal opportunities to both drivers at the start of the season. If one driver ends up in a spot for the title, it would be understandable that the Scuderia will give him number 1 status. Both Hamilton and Leclerc are mature enough to work in such a situation. However, Fred Vasseur will need to manage it in such a way that neither gets upset.
Presently, all seems good for Ferrari’s future driver line-up. However, tensions will only kick-off when Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc start working together. In Formula 1, your teammate is your first opponent. As such, fans can expect to see some feisty action between the two next year. Although, it is likely that the Scuderia will try to keep things peaceful for as long as possible.
