Tottenham Hotspurs confirm appointment of Antonio Conte as new manager

Antonio Conte

Tottenham Hotspur has roped in Antonio Conte days after sacking their manager Nuno Espirito Santo. Conte was the front runner according to multiple reports and the English club made it official on Tuesday. The Italian was linked to the job earlier in the summer and was close to joining the club only for the club financials to lead the management to pull the plug on the deal.

The Spurs broke the news with a small video of Conte on Twitter. “Buongiorno Antonio,” read the caption. The former Chelsea and Inter Milan is the right person they need. And following a failed attempt in the summer to sign him, they might finally have the right man for the revamp they are looking for.

Antonio Conte is an out and out winner and his mentality might just be the shot in the arm the Spurs are looking for. The Italian led Chelsea to a Premier League title in the 2016/2017 season and is coming off a title-winning season with Inter Milan. With Tottenham looking for a revamp, Conte seems to be the perfect guy for the job.

Following a 3-0 humbling by Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur sacked their manager Nuno Espirito Santo. He managed to win just eight of his 16 matches as Spurs boss. While much was expected from Nuno following his impressive stint with Wolverhampton Wanderers, he faltered following a strong start.

Spurs’ managing director of football Fabio Paratici said: “I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision. Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future.
