Erling Haaland scored 2 goals yesterday in Borussia Dortmund’s 5-1 win against Freiburg in the Bundesliga. However, the Norwegian made the headlines for his post-match interview with Norwegian journalist Jan Age Fjortoft. Haaland indicated that he was being pressured by his club Borussia Dortmund to make a decision on his future soon rather than waiting for the summer.
Haaland said,” The last six months I have not chosen to say anything out of respect for Dortmund, but now the club has started to press me into making a decision. All I want to do is play football. But they press me about my future, so that means I have to make a decision soon.”
The Norwegian added,” That is what Dortmund want. It means things will happen now. They have started to put a lot of pressure on me, and I have to accept that…so now is the time to get things started.”
Haaland told the journalist that he wanted to delay his decision until the summer. The 21 year old said,” We are in the middle of a difficult period, with a lot of games. I have said from the beginning that I want to focus on football, because that is when I am at my best. But I can’t do that now.”
However, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke then released a statement of his own regarding the things Haaland had said. Watzke stated,” Haaland is a spontaneous person. He is allowed to do that. but he must also have some understanding for our situation- we can’t wait until the end of May.”
There are many top clubs interested in signing Erling Haaland this summer. The 21 year old’s agent Mino Raiola had already hinted that top clubs like Manchester City, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich were all interested in signing the striker. Raiola had previously stated that Haaland would “take the next step” soon and may end up at one of the top clubs.
