Newcastle United made the return to the Champions League after 20 seasons away from European Top Flight football. They made their UCL ‘debut’ against Italian giants AC Milan. Eddie Howe and Co. managed to salvage a point from the tie, after relentless pressure and a dominant display from the home side at the San Siro. Alan Shearer, Pundit and Newcastle legend had some harsh words for his own son following the tie.

Speaking for The Rest is Football, Shearer shifted his attention to an incident outside the San Siro. He ‘blasted’ his son for his actions in a video sent to him by his friend, in which he was seen ‘provoking’ and ‘annoying’ Milan fans assembled outside the club’s team hotel, a while wearing a Newcastle Jersey.

“There’s my stupid f***ing son with his Newcastle shirt on. Him and his three mates,” continued Shearer in response to the video. He said that he had previously advised his son to ‘go out and enjoy the atmosphere and have a good laugh’. Instead, it was him and his three friends against the 700-800 Milan fans, said Shearer. He jokingly added that he was fine and that he had a great time.

Newcastle set to face Sheffield United on Sunday

Following their Champions League opener against AC Milan, Newcastle return to domestic football on Sunday. Eddie Howe’s side are on the back of a draw against AC Milan and will look to secure all three points on the weekend. In the Premier League, Newcastle managed to bring an end to the string of defeats. A Callum Wilson penalty meant that Newcastle put an end to their losing streak against City, Brighton, and Liverpool.

Newcastle will head into the tie with confidence, after winning six of the last 7 meetings against The Blades. Eddie Howe is likely to stick with Nick Pope in goal in spite of a shaky start to the season. Fabian Schär and Sven Boatman will start in defense after their sublime performance against Milan. Tripper is a given at right-back and Dan Burn looks likely to start on the left.

Howe prefers to stick to his starting midfield of Sandro Tonali, Sean Longstaff, and Bruno Guimaraes who recently signed a long-term deal with the Magpies. The front three is most likely to receive a shuffle and fans might see Miguel Almiron, Harvey Barnes, and Callum Wilson start against Sheffield.
