“An extraordinary coach”: Diego Simeone showers high praise on Carlo Ancelotti after he guides Real Madrid to La Liga 2021-22 glory
Table-toppers Real Madrid faced their first loss in quite some time after Atletico Madrid defeated them 1-0 in the Madrid Derby at Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. Diego Simeone led Atletico Madrid to a 1-0 victory over Real Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano with Yannick Carrasco scoring the winner from the penalty spot late in the first half.
Following the derby at the weekend, the highly-acclaimed Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid’s manager, received an embrace and a handshake from opposite number Simeone.
Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone, heaped praises on Carlo Ancelotti, saying that the Real Madrid manager has set the benchmark for others to follow after guiding his team to victories in quite a few major tournaments.
“I have shaken hands with [Valencia manager Jose] Bordalas, [and Athletic Bilbao manager] Marcelino too. It depends on the match. Sometimes we cross paths and, in that situation, we greet each other. I have admiration for Ancelotti, he is an extraordinary coach. He has won in five different leagues. With a personality like the one he has… he handles himself the same whether he wins or loses,” said Simeone.
Real Madrid has been the far better than Atletico Madrid despite their recent loss against them in La Liga 2021-22
Athletico Madrid is one point behind third-place Sevilla with three games to go. They were the heavy favorites to retain Laliga this season after making high-profile acquisitions of Antoine Griezmann, Matheus Cunha, and Rodrigo De Paul. That hasn’t gone up to the plan with their mid-season crumble putting their Champions League qualification in jeopardy.
They have an important fixture against Sevilla in Wanda Metropolitano to play for on May 15. Victories on their remaining three fixtures will guarantee qualification to the Champions League which is the least the fans expect from their packed roaster.
On the other hand, Real Madrid already won the La Liga 2021-22 trophy with four games to go. They now have their eyes fixed on the Champions League but will have to beat Liverpool in Paris on May 28, 2022, in order to their hands on their 14th UCL title.
