Later, Karim Benzema was set to return to the national squad to play in the finals of the FIFA World Cup after recovering from his injury. However, French coach Didier Deschamps announced that the Real Madrid star would not feature in the finals raising questions about troubles in the team. It was reported that few players in the French team were happy about Karim Benzema’s absence in the 2022 FIFA World Cup including Antoine Griezmann.

Antoine Griezmann was one of the names that were reported to be happy about Benzema’s injury. It is now reported that Griezmann has been having cold vibes with the Real Madrid star since 2021. Karim Benzema’s importance during the 2021 French promo pictures being the frontman during the photo shoot sidelining Antoine Griezmann made the Atletico Madrid player unhappy according to French reporter Romain Molina via Madrid Zone.

Problems between the French coach, players, and Karim Benzema were the reason why the Ballon D’Or winner decided to retire from International Football. “I made the effort and the mistakes it took to be where I am today and I’m proud of it! I have written my story and ours is ending,” Karim Benzema posted on his social media along with a picture of the France jersey.

Karim Benzema’s eventual retirement from International Football

The French forward Karim Benzema made his retirement announcement from International Football shortly after France lost the 2022 World Cup final, arguably one of the finest games ever featured at that level. It was a memorable scene, the conclusion of a long-drawn and sketchy debacle involving one of the world’s finest football players and his national squad, which had come perilously close to a remarkable grace that was not to occur.

And so it concluded for Benzema, the 2021-22 Ballon D’or winner, among of the greatest superstars in Real Madrid’s dazzling era, with him missing out on the two peaks that his national teammates have savored over the past decade: the 2018 World Cup victory and the 2022 World Cup final fight. While speculating on what might have happened is probably irrelevant, consider Benzema’s situation in that context for a bit.

This was a player who had been expelled from the French national team in 2015 due to his participation in a blackmail controversy regarding a teammate’s sex tape, which he has consistently rejected. In 2020, Karim Benzema was eventually permitted to rejoin the national team. The 2022 FIFA World Cup would have been a dream comeback for Benzema. However, that dream was not completed and ended with his retirement.
