Barcelona may face more financial trouble, as their signing of former Chelsea player Marcos Alonso was reported as fraud to FIFA. He joined The Catalans last season in a free transfer. However, fourth-division side Union Adarve is reportedly claiming that they should have received £91,000 as part of the deal for Alonso. The 32-year-old Spaniard represented Union Adarve during his youth.

AS, a media outlet reported that Union Adarve has significant evidence of meetings between the two clubs for Alonso’s future. Union Adarve claimed that Alonso’s move to Chelsea was part of the Pierre Emerick Aubameyang deal for a reported £12 million, who moved to Chelsea from Barcelona. Marcos Alonso joined Barcelona after spending four fruitful seasons with the Blues. He made 212 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 29 goals and providing 23 assists.

Barcelona has a long history of financial problems, as they recently had a legal battle with La Liga to register star midfielder Gavi as a first-team player. La Liga previously rejected the club’s appeal for Gavi, who then took the matters to court. Marcos Alonso also took a significantly less salary to sign for Barcelona back in September 2022.

Xavi’s side has been ridden with financial problems for a long time, as they struggle to oblige with the financial fair play rules in La Liga. However, Barcelona’s domestic success helped them to ease the concerns a little bit. Barcelona won the Super Copa Espana last month, as they defeated bitter rivals Real Madrid in a 3-1 victory.

Frenkie De Jong’s future looks increasingly uncertain, as Barcelona met with Manchester City midfielder Ikay Gundogan’s agent, over transfer talks. Manchester United and Chelsea have been interested in the Dutch midfielder, and United tried to sign De Jong in the transfer window before the 2022/23 season. Barcelona’s board also sent pay-cut requests to Frenkie De Jong, which the player rejected.

Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag, who coached De Jong during his time in Ajax, praised the midfielder before United’s Europa League clash with Barcelona. “He’s a fantastic player and has become even better. Playing out from the back, he always has time. It was a pleasure working with him. He would strengthen any squad in the world. He’s got unique quality.” Meanwhile, Barcelona play Cadiz in their upcoming league match on February 20.
