In their Group H opener, Ronaldo converted a penalty to break down a resolute Ghanaian defense, but Ghana responded with Andre Ayew in the 73rd minute.

Joao Felix put Portugal back in lead, and substitute Rafael Leao added a third, which was crucial as Osman Bukari netted a late consolation goal for Ghana before Inaki Williams’ missed a golden opportunity to steal a point from goalkeeper Diogo Costa’s massive blunder.

Twitter in total meltdown as goalkeeper Diogo Costa almost presented Ghana with an equalizer after failing to observe Inaki Williams preying behind him only to slip at the most crucial moment. Cristiano could be seen in total disbelief at that moment only to be relieved after a few seconds.

When the national anthems began, Ronaldo looked concentrated and was visibly moved. He sang it confidently and passionately but seemed on the point of tears. Portugal, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, are placed in Group H with South Korea, Ghana, and Uruguay.
