Salt Bae under FIFA investigation after 2022 FIFA World Cup final antics
Argentina dethroned France on Sunday in the World Cup final penalty shootout. During the victory celebrations, the FIFA World Cup trophy was seen in the hands of the Turkish celebrity chef, whose legitimate initials are Nusret Gokce, who also posed for pictures with many Argentina players and their championship medals. Now, FIFA has launched an investigation into how Salt Bae obtained “undue access” to the ground at the Lusail Stadium, Qatar.
Salt Bae faced brutal backlash for his appearance after the Abiceleste claimed victory. Players were seen on video being weirdly forced to pose for photographs while Salt Bae carried the trophy and took selfies.
Gokce’s access to the ground was not authorized, and FIFA has addressed that only heads of state and World Cup winners are permitted to carry the prestigious trophy. Salt Bae and Lionel Messi shared a viral scene on one occasion during Argentina’s festivities.
Salt Bae repeatedly grabbed Messi’s hand to get his focus, but Messi didn’t appear to be keen on interacting. A FIFA representative stated on Thursday as reported by BBC: “Following a review, FIFA has been establishing how individuals gained undue access to the pitch after the closing ceremony at Lusail Stadium on 18 December. The appropriate internal action will be taken,”.

How did “Salt Bae” get famous?
The man underneath the title – Salt Bae – is Nusret Gökçe. He is a Turkish butcher, chef, food performer, and restaurant owner born in 1983. The more he learned about steak, the stronger his desire to establish a restaurant became – and he did just that. Salt Bae has 22 restaurants around the world. He is also the creator of the online viral meme that went viral at the beginning of 2017.
On January 7, 2017, a clip of Salt Bae adoringly preparing an Ottoman steak got much attention. Before he realized it, his face had become a meme that was being forwarded globally. The footage captures him trimming meat and “suavely” drizzling salt on it. The clip garnered over 10 million views on Instagram, and he was dubbed “Salt Bae” at the time due to his unique method of salting meat.
Salt Bae’s interestingly expressive meat videos quickly became a sequence of viral memes, with audiences especially enjoying the colorful manner he drizzled a handful of salt crystals after the video. Nusret instantly rose to fame, preparing food for famous individuals such as David Beckham, Paul Pogba, Leonardo DiCaprio, and DJ Khaled. Salt Bae’s Instagram account now has over 49 million followers.
