Here’s why Barcelona’s Ferran Torres snubbed Ansu Fati before penalty miss against Valencia

FC Barcelona’s Ferran Torres reportedly snubbed off Ansu Fati to take the penalty himself as he was facing his ex’s club Valencia. His penalty was eventually sent wide. Barcelona, however, won the match through an early Raphinha goal extending their need to nine points on the top.

Apart from him playing against his ex’s club, Torres wanted the penalty for himself as it was his birthday week and had his family and friends watching the game from the stands. The Spaniard turned 23 last week as he suffered a torrid start to the season scoring only 5 goals in 29 appearances for the Blaugrana.

FC Barcelona beat Valencia 1-0 at Camp Nou to return to winning ways after their weekend defeat at the hands of Almeria. Raphinha scored in the 16th minute before Ferran Torres missed a penalty in the second half. Ronald Araujo was also sent off in the 59th minute for tackling Valencia forward Hugo Duro when he was through on goal.

Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte is reportedly looking for a move to FC Barcelona due to less game time. Ferran Torres had left the English giants for the Blaugrana last season and has failed to have a proper impact ever since.

FC Barcelona has also been targeting Manchester City midfielders Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan to add more depth to their attack and midfield. As for Manchester City, they are not keen on selling Silva but Gundogan might leave as his contract expires at the end of the season.

Aymeric Laporte suffered an injury early in the season but has only made six starts in the Premier League this season even though he is back to full fitness. This comes in the wake of consistently good performances from the rest of the City defense with the inclusion of Manuel Akanji proving pivotal.
