Liverpool’s Spanish midfield general Thiago Alcantara admitted that the Reds’ failed quest to win the quadruple crown last season is weighing on them this season. In their pursuit of the quadruple, Liverpool played every game of the season, winning the EFL and FA Cups against Chelsea, while losing the Champions League final to Real Madrid and finishing second in the Premier League, one point behind Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp mentioned two weeks ago that they had misjudged the expense of competing for all four titles last season, and Thiago is now sharing similar views as his coach on why the team is struggling in the 2022-23 season. He said, “It’s not only about the physical. It’s psychological because we were so close to winning it all, and we barely touched it, but it’s all gone now. In difficult circumstances, we must work as a team.”

Liverpool is presently ninth in the Premier League following the draw with Chelsea. Thiago, on the other hand, believes that taking each game as it comes is a healthier psychological strategy for the squad to pursue. “We go game by game to accumulate points that will help us finish as high as possible,” .

Thiago Alcantara left his childhood Club FC Barcelona for Bayern Munich in 2013. Thiago graduated through Barça’s legendary La Masia in the late 2000s after spending his childhood between Spain and Brazil due to his father Mazinho’s profession. He made his debut in Pep Guardiola’s last season as manager and was widely seen as a long-term replacement for Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

While he made 81 appearances for Barcelona in his final two seasons, Thiago felt he wanted to play more, which led him to join Guardiola at Bayern. “At Barça, I had the opportunity to play alongside many great. Then I found it difficult to play as many minutes as I desired. Pep Guardiola left the club to join Bayern Munich. He asked about what was wrong with me. ‘I need minutes, I have to play,’ was Bayern’s driving motivation.”

Thiago had a tremendous seven-year tenure with Bayern Munich, but his time in Germany was interrupted by several injury issues. After helping Bayern Munich win the Champions League in 2020, he made a surprise transfer to Liverpool, where he has made 91 appearances. He is yet to be the solid player he once was with Barca and failed to produce the midfield dominance he possessed while playing at Germany. The Spaniard has yet to establish himself as an un-dropable player, but he produced some moments of Magic.
