Paris Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe has reportedly told Real Madrid he will join them in 2024. This could complicate Lionel Messi’s potential return to FC Barcelona. Mbappe was set to swap PSG for Madrid on a free transfer last year. Although at the last minute, in the spring, Mbappe decided to perform a U-turn. And he extended his contract at the Parc des Princes. He received a generous renewal bonus and an improved salary from his Qatari employers. Mbappe topped Forbes’ list of the World’s Highest-paid Soccer Players in 2022. This was achieved through earnings of $128 million.
This week, L’Equipe reported that Mbappe is the highest-earning player in France. He takes a whooping home €6 million every month. Madrid might not be able to match PSG in terms of salaries. But they can offer him the chance to win the Champions League. After winning the Ligue 1 title numerous times, the continental club competition is Mbappe’s top priority. PSG has fallen short again this year. They were dumped out at the last 16 by Bayern Munich. Reports suggest that Mbappe wants to leave this summer. Because PSG doesn’t seem willing to open the exit door as things stand, however, he will have to wait another season.
Such is Mbappe’s desire to try something new, though, he has reportedly told the higher-ups at the Bernabeu that he will join by the 2024-2025 season at the latest. There is “nothing and nobody” that “can make him change his mind or hinder his departure to Madrid,” according to sources close to the player. This might confuse those who remember Mbappe being paraded around with a PSG shirt with ‘2025’ on the back of it when his contract extension was unveiled.
As PSG will obviously not win the Champions League, though, a special clause that would have kept him in their shirt until 2025 is null and void, and Mbappe can leave in the summer of next year. The report says that Mbappe has called a meeting with the PSG board at the end of the season. In it, he would tell them he wishes to finally flee to Real Madrid. And this will put a severe dent in the French league leaders’ sporting project.
Furthermore, it may complicate teammate Lionel Messi’s potential return to FC Barcelona. Messi became a free agent on June 30, and Mundo Deportivo reported on Friday that PSG had offered him “more money and more years” to stay. If Mbappe has had enough of life with his current outfit, however, they may intensify their attempt to renew Messi and make the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner an offer he can’t refuse.

Mbappe sends a clear message to Chelsea as Todd Boehly keen on a summer transfer of the French striker
Despite Chelsea’s new owner Boehly-Clearlake spending over half a billion pounds in the transfer windows since their arrival, the Blues still lack in one key area: center-forward. It’s a familiar story for Chelsea’s managers and fans alike, who are still trying to battle towards landing a striker that will consistently find the back of the net. Naturally, the side isn’t unique in that facet as very few teams aren’t looking for that 20-goal per-season forward – Manchester City perhaps the exception to that rule. There were many attempts to solve the issues, as Alvaro Morata, Timo Werner, and Romelu Lukaku all came for big fees. But the trio left in similar regards.
For Graham Potter, the way to address the issue has been through attacking as a team, saying in February: “We’ve tried to address the goalscoring problem in terms of helping the team attack better. You can zoom into one position, but teams in the past four or five years have arguably won the Premier League without a recognized center-forward. It’s better for the team to attack better, to play better, to create more chances, to be more dangerous in attack. That’s the best way to solve the problem of not scoring enough goals.”
While going for a big-money goal scorer may not be the solution, perhaps landing a player that fits the club transfer philosophy of being young and promising with an all-around ability and a knack for finding the back of the net is the way to go this summer. Well, Kylian Mbappe may have pointed the Blues in the right direction after the side was linked with a move for Brighton’s Evan Ferguson.
The Irish talent has impressed in a breakout season for the Seagulls, with the France captain well aware of his ability before they face each other on the international stage. While talking about Evans, Mbappe said, “He’s a good striker, an important striker for that team. We’ve seen some clips about him, of course. But we hope tomorrow he’s going to do nothing, and that means we are going to win and we’re going to do our job. But he is a good player.” As a player who is arguably already a generational talent with years to come, surrounded by fellow world-class attackers at PSG, Mbappe knows a good striker when he sees one. It could push Chelsea to move for Ferguson in the summer and land him before others can.
