Lionel Messi rejects PSG’s first contract renewal offer asking him to lower down his salary: Reports

As per the latest reports, Lionel Messi recently rejected a contract proposal from PSG as he is unhappy with the club’s demands for a wage reduction. He is supposedly not happy at PSG with ego clashes and poor team spirit which have resulted in underwhelming performances for the past few games.

The 7-time Ballon d’Or winner has his contract expiring at the end of the season and PSG are reportedly preparing to offer him a new contract given his form this season and would be desperate not to let him leave.

However, it is understood that the World cup winner is unhappy with the wage demands and has rejected the first set of the contract renewal, and is looking for a move elsewhere. Barcelona is rumored to sign their star man back but this is highly unlikely given the Blaugrana’s financial situation and La Liga imposing a ban on them for signing new players. Other clubs such as Inter Miami, Newell’s Old Boys, and even Al-Hilal are also interested in landing the 35-year-old star

Messi, 35, has been in red-hot form for Christophe Galtier’s side, scoring 17 goals and contributing 16 assists in 28 games across competitions. He has enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career, winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Argentina in Qatar last December.

It is still possible to get one or two good seasons from him at the top level of football despite his age and the interested clubs will hope to get some of the ‘Magic moments’ he can produce if he is unable to negotiate a contract with his current club.

Messi has been offered a massive contract to join Saudi based club next season when his contract with PSG expires. With negotiations still continuing and not yet reaching a potential agreement, he continues to be linked with a move away from the club.

Al-Ittihad has emerged as one of the potential destinations for Messi’s future career to compete with fierce rivals Al-Nassr after they brought in the Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo after his controversial interview which saw him terminating his contract with Manchester United.

There are other clubs interested in a piece of the Argentinian GOAT which includes Inter Miami from MLS and former club Barcelona. If he is to join the Saudi-based club, it will recreate their fierce rivalry in La Liga which they enjoyed competing with silverware and scoring charts.
