Manchester United have introduced a new rule in the dressing room where no player will be paid more than their teammates. The club has capped the weekly salary limit to £200,000. Notably, the Red Devils are on top of the club’s list if we talk about the annual wage bill, which is an estimated total of £228 million. Limiting the weekly salary pay would mean some of the current players would face a huge pay cut.
Alex Turk says six players in the Manchester United squad will not like the new ‘salary’ rule. The first on the list is goalkeeper David de Gea, who’s currently on a £375,000-per-week. However, de Gea’s contract expires in the summer, and he will likely be offered a lower deal with a ‘take it or leave it‘ option.
Other players on the list will be Jadon Sancho (£350k), Raphael Varane (£340k), Casemiro (£300k), Anthony Martial (£250k), and Bruno Fernandes (£240k). According to various reports, England international Marcus Rashford is currently earning £ 200,000 per week.
Will Man United buy new players in the upcoming transfer windows?
United coach Erik ten Hag had an interesting explanation of where it went wrong for his side last season. He suggested the recent recruitments of the club were not ‘good enough’. The former Ajax coach was blunt with his words while talking about the club’s recent signings.
“Manchester United didn’t exactly have the fear factor last season. There was no spirit. I saw no team dynamic in the squad. The mental resilience was very low. I saw that as an outsider – and also noticed it in my first weeks at the club,” Ten Hag said.
“I looked at the culture of the club and asked myself ‘how did Manchester United become great?’. The club has bought an unimaginable number of players who have not been good enough in recent years. Most purchases have been average – and at United average is not good enough. United’s shirt weighs heavily.”Ten Hag added.
Ten Hag was recently approached by two Man United fans who were asking him to sign both Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe. However, the focus is to keep Rashford with them as Paris Saint-Germain is set to offer him a huge deal. Reports suggest that United is interested in keeping Rashford but are in no mood to match the finances offered by PSG to Rashford.
