The elder brother of Paul Pogba, Mathias Pogba has been charged and detained over the alleged extortion of his brother. Although the charges have been put against him, Mathias Pogba’s lawyer Yassine Bouzrou has claimed, “We are going to challenge this decision,” making it clear that his client has committed no criminal offense.
There are reports that four other people have also been held in custody and are being questioned over the case. Mathias had confirmed that he was behind the video that appeared online relating to “revelations” about his brother, Paul. Paul reported that he was the target of 13m euro blackmail plot and was receiving threats from an organized gang which led to the French prosecutors opening a judicial investigation.
Why was the true story behind Mathias Pogba issuing the extortion against Paul Pogba?
Mathias Pogba has admitted that he had published a video on August 27 promising “great revelations” about his brother, Paul the Juventus player and French national team member. According to sources by AFP, a large sum of money was demanded from Paul in return for which Mathias would keep quiet about his brother’s secrets and Paul would have to pay him to avoid revealing the compromising videos.
Paul Pogba has also been interviewed by investigators on that matter and he has replied that his blackmailers want to ruin his reputation and are looking to discredit him by falsely accusing him. He also denied about the story of asking a marabout(holy man) to cast a spell on his France teammate Kylian Mbappe. The case is being looked by the French police’s anti-gang and central crime units at the moment.
