Pep Guardiola hoped for a rapid Erling Haaland recovery as Manchester City took on Liverpool. Haaland was not named in the squad due to a groin injury he suffered prior to the international break.

Speaking about Haaland’s fitness, he stated: “He is much, much better, but not fully fit for today(City vs Liverpool). He didn’t feel good. With thought, we said no risk. During the season you have these types of problems, with injuries. The only thing we can do is complain but we have never done it. So now the other players are going to play.”

Julian Alvarez started instead of Haaland against the Scousers. The decision proved to be fruitful as he scored City’s first of the game. Haaland’s fitness will prove to be vital for the club as they prepare for the final leg for the season. Haaland is the most prolific goal scorer in Europe as he has 42 goals this season. Manchester City are currently in the hunt for the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Champions League.
