“Every joke has a little bit of truth,” Real Madrid’s Rodrygo on Carlo Ancelotti joining Brazil National team rumors

Brazil players continue to discuss the possibility of Ancelotti's departure from Real Madrid.

“Every joke has a little bit of truth,” Real Madrid’s Rodrygo on Carlo Ancelotti joining Brazil National team rumors

Brazil remains without a permanent head coach following Tite’s decision to leave down after a poor World Cup 2022 campaign. Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid have dismissed reports that the 63-year-old could quit the Santiago Bernabeu to coach the Selecao. Regardless, Rodrygo and his teammates have discussed the likelihood of the Italian arriving.

Rodrygo recently told ge Globo“We joke with Ancelotti that we’re waiting for him in Brazil. He jokes that we’ll make the call-up together with Militão & Vini”. But you know, every joke has a little bit of truth in it. I think he could be a serious candidate to take the Brazil job”.

This comes a day after Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson’s comments. “I was discussing this with Casemiro, Vinicius Junior, Militão. There is a big possibility that he will come. Just look at his CV. We will know shortly whether he will be here or not. I hope we can have a new coach quickly. I feel the anticipation, too, because there’s too much speculation. Is it a Brazilian or a foreign coach? We are also living that phase of anxiety.” He was chatting with journalists at a press conference.

Carlo Ancelotti is tied to Real Madrid until 2024 and claimed before Sunday’s Clasico defeat to Barcelona that he would be pleased to continue with the club “for life.” Nonetheless, there are uncertainties regarding his future at Madrid. The Italian could come under pressure if he fails to win a major title this season. Barcelona is now 12 points of Los Blancos in La Liga, and they are 1-0 down against Xavi’s team at the midway point of their Copa del Rey semi-final encounter. Ancelotti will hope their clash against Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals will provide clarity.

Why was Ederson selected ahead of Alisson for the Brazil national team?

The South American country is scheduled to take in a friendly game with 2022 World Cup semi-finalists Morocco on Saturday, with Ederson set to start between the sticks. Weverton and Mycael are the other goalkeeping options available to interim boss Ramon Menezes, with Alisson – his country’s No.1 at Qatar 2022 and has 61 caps – a surprise omission from the Brazil squad.

Ederson, who has been battling with Alisson to be Brazil’s first choice for several years now, has said of seeing a fellow Premier League star left out: “The first moment I saw the list I was surprised, but it’s the coach’s decision. They are choices, I thought he would be on the list, but he was not. I do not know why, if it is a matter of opportunities for younger players.”

Alisson was the first-choice option for former Brazil manager Tite, and he may return to the team when future squads are assembled. However, he is currently being left to focus on club matters.
