The country roars with passion and joy after the Saudi Arabia boys won 2-1 against Lionel Messi’s heavyweights in the opening fixture of Group C. Herve Renard, the French football manager, and former footballer, tactically outclassed Lionel Scaloni’s side as the men in green shocked Argentina by coming from behind as soon as the second half began.

The Arab fans at the stadium were delighted by their national team’s solid performance as they witnessed one of the biggest upsets in the FIFA World Cup at the Lusail Stadium.

In order to mark this historic moment for their citizens, the Saudi government decided to give their people a day off. This victory against the FIFA World Cup favorites has boosted the confidence of Saudi Arabia fans and the national team players since they were considered underdogs of this year’s World Cup.

2022 FIFA World CUP Argentina vs Saudi Arabia: What went wrong with Scaloni’s plans?

the Saudi Arabia players after scoring their second goal against Argentina

Lionel Scaloni had his hands on his head by the end of the game after Saudi Arabia managed to end Argentina’s 36-game unbeaten streak. The Argentine manager was found nowhere tactically and had a tough time reading the game. The game was pure drama; from the first half to the last second.

Argentina looked very much in control of the game until the second half began. They even scored 3 goals that were ruled out by VAR due to offside because of the high line provided by Saudi Arabia’s defense. Although, a lousy second-half start from Argentina and a high press gave the middle eastern team more chances to equalize, and ended up conceding 2 brilliant goals in just 5 minutes.

It was a tough day for Lionel Messi and company as the Argentine boys failed to headstart their World Cup journey in the way they would have wanted. How far do you think this Argentina squad can go in the 2022 FIFA World Cup?
