A Spanish journalist sensationally claimed that Gerard Pique and Shakira have been in an open relationship for the latter part of their time together. This claim has opened up a completely different side of the whole Shakira-Pique controversy. It was previously thought that Pique’s infidelity has been the root of the discord.

Spanish journalist Jose Antonio Aviles has claimed that the couple were in an open relationship for the last three years. He claimed that there was, “no infidelity on his(Pique’s) part” and he was surprised by Shakira’s public announcement of their split. The most recent development originated from individuals within the ex-footballer’s inner circle.

According to the journalist, this agreement is a significant moment in their relationship. Avilés stated, as reported by El Nacional de Catalunya, “There is an understanding where ‘you do your thing and I’ll do mine.”

However, publicly, we still appear as a couple.” Avilés expressed that Shakira’s announcement to the media regarding their separation surprised the footballer’s close associates. “He has been annoyed to find out from the press,” another journalist, Pilar Vidal, affirmed, supporting the previous claims. “He was surprised by the statement, because the one who takes the initiative is her.” claimed the journalist.

Shakira and Gerard Pique broke up in June 2022 after 11 years of dating. The former FC Barcelona defender, as per most other available information, was cheating on Shakira with a 23-year-old employee of his company. Since then, both of them have been throwing potshots at each other, making things really ugly.

Not long after the breakup, Pique made it official with his new girlfriend Clara Chia Marti evoking fury from the singer’s fanbase. He was mocked and condemned for his behavior around the world. However, this new piece of information might mean that he never did anything wrong in the relationship.

The Colombian singer, however, tells a different story as she claimed that Pique cheated on her. The betrayal came in what was already a low moment for her as her father was fighting for his life in the hospital.

“Everything happened at once. My home was falling apart,” she said. “I was finding out through the press that I had been betrayed while my dad was in the ICU.” The plot of this ongoing drama looks to have thickened with the claims of the journalist. More development could be possible in the story.

However, since then, the Colombian has bounced back to her feet. She used her anger on Pique to fuel her music and her last four songs, all aimed towards the former Manchester United and Barcelona star, have performed strongly on the charts. Shakira has also regained her status as a pop icon and is active in the dating scene. She has been spending time with Lewis Hamilton and Tom Cruise as well after moving to Miami, making the paparazzi go gaga with rumors of who would be the next partner of the Hips don’t lie singer.
