UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin said the refereeing scandal facing FC Barcelona is ‘one of the most serious situations he has ever seen in football ‘. Barcelona remains under the spotlight for their involvement in the Negreira Case. The world continues to await both further results of the anti-corruption investigation, and Barcelona’s explanation of it. They are unlikely to face sporting sanctions in Spain. But they could well receive punishment from UEFA as President Aleksander Ceferin sounded deeply concerned by the reporting too.

Speaking to Slovenian paper Ekipa, President Ceferin explained that it was up there with the most concerning he had seen in the game. He reportedly said, “I have been informed and the situation is extremely serious. It is so serious that, in my opinion, it is one of the most serious things in football that I have seen.”

Aleksander went on to say that while he would not comment further on the matter. But he did make a point of saying that they were not bound by the same statute of limitations as La Liga are. He then added, “I cannot comment directly on this for two reasons. Firstly, because we have an independent disciplinary committee in charge of it. And secondly, because I have not dealt with this matter in detail”.

Aleksander then said, “At the level of the Spanish League, the matter is prescribed and cannot have competitive consequences. The proceedings are ongoing at the level of the Spanish civil prosecutor’s office. But as far as UEFA is concerned, there is nothing time-barred”.

Ceferin also took a dig at the Super-league. He pointed out that while Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid had posed themselves as the saviours of football, two of them are facing serious legal issues. Certainly given the disagreements between UEFA and Barcelona on that issue. They will have no good side to appeal to should they need to do so.

FC Barcelona demands for La Liga chief Tebas to Resign: Report

President Laporta and Brcelona reprotedly ask for a Liga chief Tebas to resign 1

FC Barcelona have reportedly called for LaLiga president Javier Tebas to resign. This was after a story appeared in Spain on Monday suggesting he had incorrectly linked two former club presidents to evidence in the corruption case against the club. Tebas has strongly refuted the claims on social media. But Barcelona have also issued a statement saying the league chief was ‘obsessed with persecuting‘ the club.

In Monday morning’s La Vanguardia newspaper it was alleged that Tebas sent a document to the Public Prosecutor. Former Barcelona director Josep Contreras wrote this document. This document reportedly implicated that former Barcelona presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell were in the alleged crimes of financial impropriety and misappropriation.

La Vanguardia say Tebas had attributed two names in the document to Rosell and Bartomeu. But according to La Vanguardia the family of Contreras say the letter was written ‘decades’ before. And the mentions of a ”Rosell ” and a ‘Josep Maria‘ were references to different people and not the former Barcelona presidents.

Tebas has strongly refuted the claims on social media. In his tweet Tebas said, “La Vanguardia’s headline ‘Tebas provided the Prosecution with false evidence to incriminate Barça’ is FALSE. We did NOT accuse anyone. This is supported by the story itself which points out that the letter to the prosecutor’s office said, ‘nor does the present letter imply any specific accusation against anyone’ “.

Nonetheless, Barcelona issued their own statement hours after the La Vanguardia story surfaced. They reportedly asked for Tebas to leave his role. In their statement, Barcelona said, “Given the gravity of the information that has appeared today Monday in La Vanguardia in which LaLiga president Javier Tebas is linked to the presentation of false evidence to the public prosecutor to incriminate our club.”

FC Barcelona then went on to say, “We wishes to expresses our deepest indignation, anger and dismay. For that reason, we urgently require the LaLiga president to appear in public to explain himself. Beyond the tweet sent in the early hours by Mr.Tebas. It lacked substance and seemed to be with a threatening tone. FC Barcelona feels itself to be the victim of a media campaign for events that never took place. Barça has never paid referees“.

In the club’s statement Barcelona reportedly said that this harassment they are facing, involved a group of powerful people amongst the media section of the country. And La Liga chief was the won behind who’s pulling all the strings.

Their statement concluded as Barcelona said, “The article published today by La Vanguardia is of such gravity that it should put all the clubs in LaLiga on alert, given that it talks of practices which are in no way consistent with the job of the president of LaLiga. If only for this fact, that of giving himself powers that do not belong to him. Also for reasons of dignity and respect for the presidency of LaLiga, Mr.Tebas should resign from his post”.
