Chelsea FC and their manager Graham Potter were booed off by the fans following their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday night. They slipped into the bottom half of the Premier League standings.

Chelsea went behind within 20 minutes with a mix-up at the back between summer signings Marc Cucurella and Kalidou Koulibaly allowing Ollie Watkins to break through on goal and dink the ball over Kepa Arrizabalaga. John McGinn doubled it with a thumping strike from just on the edge of the box to make things even worse for Chelsea. Chelsea looked bright during the match and had several close chances. Although Ben Chilwell’s rising header was disallowed.

N’Golo Kante made his return to the pitch to pull a very promising chance just wide of the post. The Blues lead the game in terms of stats having more ball possession and more attempts than their opposition. But frustratingly they failed to find the back of the net, despite having a whopping 27 attempts to Villa’s five.

Pressure is once again mounting on under-fire manager Graham Potter from the club’s fanbase. The fans made their feelings toward their team very clear after the final whistle at Stamford Bridge and during the match.

It’s been a difficult season for Potter, and today’s match summed up a lot of the growing frustration at the club, with the Blues failing to live up to the success of their previous season under Thomas Tuchel.  And since Graham Potter took over in September, the English manager has lost nine of the 11 league games he’s overseen. Despite spending over £300million in January alone on new players. The Blues have lost over a third of their matches this season. This was their tenth defeat in the Premier League.

Recent success against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League had given the English manager some breathing space. But a last-minute goal at home to Everton and conceding twice in front of their home fans for the second game running has left many supporters running out of patience.

After the match, the fans reportedly showed their discomfort both on and off the pitch. The fans booed the team and coach Potter for their performance. Some fans even took to social media to show their discomfort. One fan wrote on Twitter, ‘Can no longer defend this form’. Another fan wrote, ‘Graham Potter must go. The task is too big for him. My patience is running out. No more excuses ‘. While a third fan said, ‘As usual. Defeat, after defeat, worst Chelsea manager I ever witnessed.’

Fans are reportedly losing their patience and trust in the club. And they demand a rapid change of the circumstances soon enough. The fans fear that Chelsea might not qualify for any of the Elite European competitions next season. This is because Chelsea are sitting in 11th place at the table. The club has 10 more games in their hands to fix their situation in Premier League.
