Romelu Lukaku’s World Cup nightmare has been mocked by Croatian legend Ivan Rakitic, who has offered him a free month of vacation in Split. In an effort to help Belgium advance to the next round, Roberto Martinez substituted the on-loan Inter Milan striker in at halftime.
They needed to defeat Croatia at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium on Friday in order to have any hope of advancing to the tournament’s round of 16. He experienced a terrible 45 minutes while possibly missing four good opportunities to score the game-winning goal. Before lifting a header over the bar, the former Chelsea striker first hit the post in a fantastic opportunity.
His failure to score persisted throughout the game as he let another chance hit him when it was easier to score and then failed to convert a cross from only yards out. In the end, the scores were tied, and Belgium did not advance. After the final whistle, Lukaku was heartbroken and was consoled by former French international Thierry Henry. He also punched the dugout to vent his anger.

With a vicious message, former Croatia midfielder Rakitic added salt to the striker’s wounds. He posted on Instagram stating: “Let’s go Lukaku! We have to pay him a month of vacation in Split. Let’s go!” It is unlikely that Lukaku will accept Rakitic’s generous offer, as he follows his teammates in departing Qatar before the round of 16 even begins.
After the World Cup break, Serie A will resume, and the 29-year-old will return to Inter Milan where he will attempt to finally kick start his season. Lukaku has only made five appearances this season across all competitions due to injury, scoring two goals during that period.
