“We lack that hunger.” – Brendan Rodgers on Leicester City players’ lost hunger
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers expressed his disappointment at his players, branding them ‘embarrassing’ after they were humiliated by Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
Leicester were blown away by their Championship opponents and became the second Premier League side to be dumped out of the tournament. Leicester City won their first FA Cup title last season only to be knocked out in the 4th rounds of the competition this year.
The Leicester boss apologised to the supporters and said that the players lack the hunger and desire in the team.
“It was an awful performance and I have to apologise to the supporters,” Rodgers said.
“We made mistakes and the mistakes then affect the confidence through the team. You go two quick goals behind and you’re chasing the game then.
“For me, it’s something that I’ve seen for a little period now. These players, some of them have done very well, but we lacked that hunger and physicality, which was never the case and is something that’s a concern.
“We lacked stability at the back, gave away poor goals and the two quick goals rocked us. In a game of this importance – particularly a derby game, away from home – you need to have authority and you need to have physicality, and we lacked that in abundance.
“They deserved to win – scored the goals, showed a greater desire and that’s the disappointment.”
Leicester City only had two shots on target all match and conceded three times in a crazy nine-minute first-half spell, with goals from Philip Zinckernagel, Brennan Johnson and Joe Worrall. A goalkeeping error from Brice Samba gifted Leicester a goal back through Kelechi Iheanacho, but the three-goal lead was restored when Djed Spence grabbed the hosts’ fourth.

Leicester City might be in for big changes this summer
Rodgers, who has guided Leicester City to successive fifth-placed finishes in the Premier League – although they are 10th this season – says complacency has crept in among his players and changes need to be made as he indicated that “time could be up” for some of his squad.
“Too many players think they are top players but are a long way off,” said Rodgers. “Some players may have achieved everything they can here. I watch training every day and for some, it’s everything they could dream of, they’ve won the FA Cup – that might be it [for them], but it’s not for me.”
The manager’s words clearly suggest that he is not happy with the group and he would want to make some major changes in the next months.
