A seven-time world champion, who was just moments away from winning his record-breaking 8th, Lewis Hamilton was honest with the highest regard when he received his knighthood couple of days ago. The former F1 supremo, Bernie Ecclestone suggested that only the people who have done something for the country should be rewarded with the honor of knighthood. Moreover, he did not stop their and also hit out at Hamilton’s Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, for the way he behaved after Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the world championship in Abu Dhabi.

“Only people who have really done something for the country should be knighted,” 91-year-old Ecclestone, the former F1 supremo, told the German broadcaster n-tv as per Grandpx.news

“I don’t think many people who are knighted now really deserve it. They all make a lot of money and donate some to charity but they haven’t done anything specific for the country,” he insisted.

Talking about Toto Wolff, Ecclestone compared him with Niki Lauda and stated, “Let them race’, that’s what Niki said. Unfortunately he died too early.”

The 78-year-old Austrian said of Mercedes’ appeal: “Given our understanding of sport, we would never do that.”
