“Charles Leclerc is in top form,” Helmut Marko believes Ferrari have a “clear number one” driver this season

Charles Leclerc with teammate Carlos Sainz at the Bahrain Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc has been on fire in the first two races of this season, with already a win and two podiums under his belt in as many races. Ferrari has been rampant with both drivers peaking at the same time but it’s clear from the evidence that Charles Leclerc looks like the complete package this season as compared to Carlos Sainz. It’s not like that Carlos Sainz has been off the pace. It’s just that Charles Leclerc has been special.

Charles Leclerc was outclassed by his team mate Carlos Sainz as he finished lower than his teammate in the driver’s standings. This had never happened in the career of the Monegasque driver. He seems to have taken that personally as he seems to be a man on a mission to get the better off Carlos Sainz. But his priority is just not that. His dream is to win the world champion.

He has already given the reigning world champion, Max Verstappen, a run for his money and even got the better off him in Bahrain. The fight seems to be on between Ferrari’s number 1 and Red Bull’s number 1. It’s going to be a long season but the early reaction is that it could be a two horse race for the driver’s championship keeping in mind the struggles of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes.

Helmut Marko has acknowledged the quality of performances that Charles Leclerc that he has been putting week in and week out. Helmut Marko said, “Although his team-mate Sainz has also been on the podium twice, I reckon the battle to be Ferrari’s No 1 driver for the 2022 championship has already been decided.”

“Last year Sainz beat Leclerc, but this year Leclerc is in top form.”

“That means we can’t expect any support from Sainz.”

“So it will be a situation like ours, where there is a very clear number one driver.” As reported by planetf1.

Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen have already gone wheel to wheel in the two races that we have had and this has definitely set the tone for the rest of the season in terms of our expectations.
