George Russell the new Mercedes Formula1 team recruit has come out with a recent statement regarding his promotion to the Mercedes Formula1 team. George Russel was promoted to the Mercedes team during the second half of the 2021 Formula1 season.

It has been stated on Twitter by formularacers that George Russel while talking about his promotion has said “Two years[at Williams] would have been enough, but we signed for three years[with Williams]. There was nothing we could do about that.”

It seems George wanted to sign for the Williams team on a two-year contract with the hope of getting promoted to the Mercedes team in the next year. This wasn’t the case as Mercedes extended Valtteri Bottas’s contract for another year.

When the news broke on Twitter the fans did not take time in having their say regarding his statement. The fans had a divided opinion on his statement as fans thought he sounded arrogant while there was a group who said that he deserves to drive for Mercedes.

George Russell’s supporters especially pointed out the Sakhir Grand Prix of 2020 where he got the opportunity to drive Lewis Hamilton’s W12. Before that weekend Lewis tested positive for covid-19 and had no option but to sit out the Sakhir GrandPrix. George was asked to step up in his absence and he certainly did with his spectacular performance for the Brackley-based silver arrows.

George Russell was only 0.026 seconds slower than Valtteri Bottas in the qualifying session and was able to achieve P2 for the starting grid. During the race, George overtook Valtteri on the first lap of the race and did that again in the latter half of the Sakhir Grand Prix.

The Grand Prix, however, ended in sorrow for the young brit as because of a technical glitch he was not able to finish the race, before that he was looking all set for a podium finish. One good thing that came out of the race was that George was able to get everyone’s attention and especially of Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff.
