“It Will be Fun”: Lewis Hamilton Acknowledges Start Could be his ‘Only’ Chance

Although the last lap in the Qualifying session of the Dutch Grand Prix was compromised, yet Lewis Hamilton was lacking behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen’s by 0:038 seconds. Knowing that the circuit of Zandvoort does not offer much when it comes to overtaking, so the start remains to be a very crucial aspect. The same was highlighted by Mercedes ace driver, Lewis Hamilton ahead of the raceday.

With Valtteri Bottas alongside in P3, Hamilton could expect some help. But so far in the season Max Verstappen has rather got past the Finn driver with ease. Having to keep all these factors aside, the Dutch GP will surely be an all-together different ball game. Now with just being hours away from the commencement of the race, Hamilton keenly sets his sight on the start.

“I haven’t done any long-running,” Lewis Hamilton told media as quoted by RacingNews365.com. “I don’t really know too much of what the track is like with heavy fuel. I only have my reference from [Formula 3 in] 2005 and I don’t remember that!

“I have no doubt it’s gonna be tough. Just from watching these guys [Red Bull], I think Max Verstappen and his team were quicker than us on the long run. It’s not a track that you can particularly overtake [on], so it’s going to be [about] strategy and how you can utilise the tyres.”

With those factors in mind, he predicted, “The start will be fun!”

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff will leave it up to Hamilton to decide how much risk to take at the start, making clear his belief that the seven-time World Champion “knows best” in these situations.
