Ever since Nico Rosberg was replaced by Valtteri Bottas at Mercedes, the latter has had a huge role to play in the success of Lewis Hamilton, which the seven-time World Champion also agrees upon. Just as the drama for the second driver at Silver Arrows keeps on increasing race after race, it has been revealed by the Finn driver to being told that Hamilton wants him to stay for the season of 2022 at least. 

Although there are reports of Junior driver, George Russell making a significant impact for boss Toto Wolff. The partnership of Bottas and Hamilton is in its fifth season and for each of the season Bottas has been in the team, he has ensured that Mercedes wins by comforting fashion. Safe to say that the Finn driver that at least Hamilton is fighting his corner whilst other forces having opposing views.

“Yes, Lewis Hamilton has told me quite directly that he would like me to be his team-mate,” said Valtteri Bottas, speaking to Finnish television station MTV Sport. “Together we can do very well. The fact is, drivers can’t make a terrible impact on it. There’s a bigger machine behind it that ultimately makes those decisions.”

Bottas has confirmed it unlikely an answer will be delivered soon, adding, “Unfortunately, there is nothing to say. It remains to be seen what happens. I don’t think there will be any news in the near future, but things will be clear in time. Everything is going in the right direction.”

As to his options if a new Mercedes deal does not materialise, Bottas said, “I can’t say who we’re going to talk to and what’s going on. But things are being discussed so that we can find the best option for next season.” 

Having said that, the remainder of the 2021 season is going to be the practical test for Bottas and his seat at Mercedes. Especially with Belgian Grand Prix to commence this week, let’s hope Bottas could make a significant impact.
