Micheal Masi

Micheal Masi the current Formula1 race director has again come under the radar as ex Formula1 driver Stefan Johansson has given his opinion regarding the scenes that took place at the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi. During his career, Stefano was able to get on the podium 12 times in 79 races between 1983-1991.

It has been stated in Planetf1 that Stefan Johansson in his blog believes the decisions that Micheal Masi made particularly after the safety car incident did not make any sense to him, he has further added that “But I have to think there has to be a balance somewhere because the decisions Masi made make no sense on any level. His decision completely ignored any level of common sense as to what would have been a fair way to handle the situation.”

Here he is referring to the fact that why was Max Verstappen allowed to overtake all the cars that were between him and Lewis Hamilton and why did he completely ignore the safety car rule.

Micheal Masi could have done things in a different way

The former Formula1 diver has given his way of how he would have handled the situation if he had been in Micheal Masi’s position. He believes the only way that the situation should have been handled was by red-flagging the race like they did in the Jeddah Grand Prix.

In his opinion with five laps to go red-flagging the race was the only option to make sure that spectators were invested in the race till the chequered flag. The red flag would have allowed all the cars to pit and put on new tires which would have made the five-lap shootout fair for everyone.

Stefano believes the absurd decision-making from Micheal Masi cost Lewis Hamilton the world title who had a flawless race until that point. He has further added that the whole 2021 Formula 1 season was a culmination of bad decision-making and for some reason, they kept on escalating as the season went on.
