“P3 is a decent start for tomorrow,” Sergio Perez unsatisfied after being pipped by Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen
Red Bull driver Sergio Perez
Sergio Perez have shown signs of brilliance in bits and pieces but nothing consistently to make us believe that he can be a serious title contender. The new Red Bull is better suited to Sergio Perez than Max Verstappen as the Mexican deals better with oversteer going into the corners than his team mate who hasn’t looked at all comfortable ever since the start of this new era of Formula 1.
The Mexican was flying in Q1 and Q2 and seemed to have a great start going into Q3 but just couldn’t set the pace after Fernando Alonso’s crash which brought in the red flag. He looked set to be on pole as he was way faster than Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen in the last sectors of Albert park in Melbourne. But these are the opportunities that a driver needs to capitalize to contend for the title.
This has been a mixed bag of results for Red Bull by their high standards and also keeping in mind the constructor’s championship. The thing that they can be happy about is the fact that Carlos Sainz’s finished P9. This could be a weekend when they can pull some points back from their arch rivals after Ferrari’s utter dominance on the podium in last two races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Sergio Perez did underperform after a cracking start to Q3 at the Australian GP Qualifying
But nothing is for certain as we saw in Saudi Arabia and there is every possibility that Sergio Perez might turn it around tomorrow. Serio Perez after qualifying, said, “Q1 and Q2 we were running good and with all the red flags its very hard to keep the momentum going.
“I regret a bit the decision we took going into Q3 with our strategy on the tyres but I think P3 is a decent start for tomorrow.”
“I think we have a nice race ahead of us. I hope we make a lot of Aussies very happy tomorrow.” As reported by gpblog.
This might not have been the best of the qualifying sessions for Red Bull and Sergio Perez but we can safely say that despite everything, the Mexican will leave no stone unturned to win the Australian GP.
