‘That was unprecedented. But also we have to move on from that’: Toto Wolff, as he ponders over the infamous Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Mercedes and Toto Wolff had a moment of almost and almost not in the last race of the season as they literally went wheel to wheel with Red Bull and Max Verstappen. Mercedes had a commanding lead over Red Bull before it was snatched away from them, courtesy of an abysmal decision from Michael Masi.

Something had to give before the new start after a catastrophic season finale and so it did. FIA decided to take control of the situation before it became unmanageable. The sign of intent came as Michael Masi was sacked and replaced by Eduardo Freitas and Niels Wittich.

On top of that, there has been a massive overhaul in the regulations too with substantial changes made to the procedures which loomed around the withdrawal of the safety car. Everything has been done to keep any room for controversy away from the sport and racing should grab the headlines.

Toto Wolff has understood the assignment quickly as he has admitted that it’ll be impossible to the events that happened in Abu Dhabi but it’s equally important to forget it and move on if the team wishes to bounce back in their vintage style.

In a recent interview said, he said, “We are not going to forget it, that’s simply not possible but we need to look into 2022, and especially today, launching the car, this should be the moment, with the steps that have been taken by the FIA, embark with encouragement on the season.”

Toto Wolff was recently asked for a response as to whether the Yas Marina race was fixed. He stated, “Nothing was fixed. I think it was circumstances and decisions that were unprecedented. Now obviously we know what happened in the background, unknown to us, and then a championship was gone within literally half a minute of decision making. That was unprecedented. But also we have to move on from that,” as reported by gpfans.

We can go all day and night deciphering whether it was a sound decision and not but that is not changing the outcome of what has already happened and Toto Wolff has resonated with the same opinion as they look to bounce back with their new challenger W13 and continue their utter domination in Formula 1.
