“That’s behind us now,” Christian Horner and Toto Wolff ready to put behind personal agenda in 2023
Red Bull, Mercedes
With the beginning of pre-testing in Barcelona for the 2022 season, Mercedes and Red bull are gearing up for another thrilling and exciting title fight with a friendly competition compared to last years, 2021’s season where the friendly competition turned ugly between the team principals with respect to the championship.
Starting off with a clean slate, the team principals agree on putting the fight behind them and continue racing in good spirits. Both the team kept each other on their toes by putting forth a tough competition at each track. The fun banter turned chaotic not long before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix which caused chaos and increased the distance between the two teams.
Mercedes and Red bull lost their balance after a long time when Max Verstappen was crowned the 2021 World Champion. The controversial change in decision during the last lap led Toto Wolff being furious, leading to Christian Horner facing lawyers right after the celebration filled with champagne stains.
This win was important for Mercedes as it not only would help Lewis Hamilton break Michael Schumacher’s record of seven wins but it would also be a significant win before the changes in the car with the new technical regulations starting this year, 2022.
New start to the title championship
Toto Wolff in an interview said that his main focus for this year’s championship is new season rather than dwelling about last season. As always Mercedes has everything required to win the World Championship on a winning note and nothing seems to stop them from achieving that this year along with Horner agreeing on starting the new season on a fresh note.
“Maybe we have different opinions, but that’s behind us now, we saw a great battle last year from the first race to the last. That has been hugely important for the rise in popularity of Formula 1,” Christian Horner added.
