The rivalry between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton has been apparent from the beginning of this season, as both drivers are neck and neck in the fight for the 2021 World Champion drivers championships. While Max currently leads clear by 5 points, Hamilton is close behind and fighting for his record breaking title.

The season has not seen a smooth relationship between the two teams, as both the team principals Toto Wolff and Christian Horner have been vocal about their opinions towards each other. From stealing personnel to alleged illegal car parts and arguments on slower pitstops, both have been quick to attack and defend.

Both drivers made contact at the Rettifilo chicane, as Verstappen’s car went over Hamilton’s, bringing their dreams of scoring points to an end. The massive crash at Monza fuelled the fire, and both teams had someone to blame. Verstappen was given a three place grid penalty for the next race in Sochi, and he was criticised by the public for not checking up on Hamilton after the crash.

Red Bull’s advisor, Dr, Helmut Marko however, had different things to say. The relationship between the advisor and Toto Wolff was cordial, but soon went downhill after Niki Lauda’s passing away.

After the crash in Monza Marko accused Hamilton of feigning his neck injury. Marko said that Verstappen had already got out of the car after the crash, when Hamilton attempted to go out back onto the gravel. “And then a show is put on that poor Hamilton is suddenly injured,” said Marko to PlanetF1.

Hamilton has since then said that he will receive medical attention before the next Grand Prix as his neck continues to bother him. As for Toto, he called the crash a tactical foul on Max’s behalf.

According to GPBlog, Toto Wolff also jabbed right back at Helmut after the crash, saying that any other attacks form teams was their motivating factor. “Mr Grumpy is our strongest weapon. Niki always said: every outside attack strengthens our team.”
