Lando Norris is “unsure” about the implementation of the new technical regulations ahead of 2022 season

The 2022 season is going to be a new era in Formula One. The new technical regulations will make it easier for cars to overtake, drive closer than ever and will give other teams on the grid a chance to fight against. Lando Norris, McLaren driver gave his two cents on the same, and expressed his doubt in regards to the implementation of the rules.
The aim of the changes in the rules is to make racing more exciting and competitive rather than it being predictable and monotonous. It will also help in reducing the turbulence caused by the ‘dirty air’ and will increase the downward pressure. The cars would be heavier but a lot more safer than the ones before, ensuring less near to fatal injuries.
The key changes made in the cars for the 2022 season will be the ground-effect floor, leading to more suction under the car to pull it to the tarmac, ensuring more generation of downforce from under the car. In order to stop sending airflow outwards and narrowing it instead, leading to a lesser impactful DRS, the cars will be made with a simplified front wing and a sharp rear wing.
Lastly, the wheels on the car will now be a bit bigger, about 18 inches in order to handle the car properly and an additional winglet will help direct the air away form the rear wing.
Lando Norris’ reaction towards the new technical regulations
While there has been steady progress, McLaren driver, Lando Norris admits that he is unsure whether the new technical rules that will be implemented in 2022 will have the desired effect of making races more exciting.
During the press conference for his new F1 car, Norris stated that the difficulty in overtaking made up for exciting duels. The Brit said “That was one of the best battles of the season,” referring to the Grand Prix in Hungary, where Lewis Hamilton struggled to pass Fernando Alonso.
It’d be less difficult for Hamilton to outsmart Alonso in such a case with the new regulations. At the same time, Norris admits, that there had been too few such duels in the ultimate season. “There were not many battles because as soon as you get two seconds behind someone, you lose downforce and you can’t do anything,” he added. That’s exactly what the modified guidelines have to have solved.
