The 2021 Formula One season will forever be remembered as one of the tightest title fights that went all the way down the wire. The contenders, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton were neck-to-neck till the last lap of the last race of the season.

In an epic duel in the season finale during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Max overtook Lewis claiming his first world title. But that would be half the tale told as the controversial directives from the race director Micheal Masi changed the fate of the race.

As Max gets ready to defend his title while Hamilton is ready for the elusive 8th World Championship, F1 Pundit and former driver, Mark Webber has warned that deep scars remain from the climactic 2021 title battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.

With a new season underway, Former Formula One and Red Bull driver turned commentator had an interesting suggestion for the two title rivals. In an interview with Australia’s Channel 9, as quoted by f1i, he told “It’s hard, I think we need a year off. They need a year off. There are still some old scars there that need some healing. It was a really tough finish for him mentally, at the end of last year.”

Following the crash of Nicholas Latifi’s Willams, the Race director Michael Masi allowed the cars between Hamilton and Verstappen to unlap themselves giving Max a chance on his fresher soft tyres. The Red Bull driver made a lunge in the penultimate laps gaining the lead in the process.

Hamilton had since the race taken a hiatus and rumors began spreading like wildfire regarding his future at the sport. But the rumors have since been quashed following the Seven-time world Champions return. All eyes will be on the two rivals again as they go Wheel-to-wheel when the new season kicks off on 18th March with the Bahrain Grand Prix.
