“The track helped us,” Lando Norris reacts as McLaren score their first points of the 2022 season
Lando Norris
With an end to yet another amazing race weekend for the 2022 season, we saw a lot of teams struggle today with one or the other failure issues with their cars. During the end of the race, only 14 cars crossed the checkered flag with the rest 6 remaining cars being retired.
Even though this track does not hold a good memory for many, Lando Norris was one of the happy lads as the track helped him and the team gain their first-ever points for the 2022 season. Andreas Haupt, Reporter for auto motor und Sport earlier quoted Lando Norris in a tweet saying, “The track helped us. If we drove in Bahrain now, we wouldn’t be any better than last week.” Although his team-mate Daniel Ricciardo had to retire the car while he was putting forth a strong drive.
Misfortunes at the Jeddah Track
After a huge crash at turn 12 which included Mick Schumacher was back on track but his car was not ready due to which the young lad had to sit out for the race. Mick was soon joined by Yuki Tsunoda before the lights out due to a suspected power unit issue.
The race had begun with Sergio Perez on the lead and everything was working according to the plan but an unfortunate crash of Nicholas Latifi’s Williams at the final corner right after Checo made a pit stop during the 17th lap cost the Mexican his podium as he finished P4.
Other drivers on the grid were not lucky tonight as well. Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon were seen going head-to-head many times during the course of the race before Alonso had to retire his car around the 38th lap due to technical problems. Soon after, Daniel Ricciardo was seen parking his car at the side of the track due to engine troubles and while Valtteri Bottas managed to reach the pit lane, Finn’s problems could not be solved immediately, forcing him to retire his car as well.
Every other team on the grid has been able to score minimal points within the 2 races held till now but Williams and Aston Martin seem to be struggling with adding a point on the Constructor’s leader board with both the teams at the bottom with zero points.
The next race is to be held in Australia on the 10th of April in Danil Ricciardo’s hometown. It would be interesting to watch Aston Martin and/or Williams bag some points and give a tough competition to McLaren as it just holds 6 points after today’s blunder.
