“Djokovic is the toughest opponent,” says Rafael Nadal ahead of Roland Garros final clash
Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal is set to battle it out against Novak Djokovic for his 20th Grand Slam title at the French Open 2020. Nadal defeated Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman 6-3, 6-3, 7-6(0) to advance to the finals of Roland Garros for a record 13th time.
In his post-match press conference, Diego said, “Rafa is Rafa. He knows how to improve, how to practice, how to do everything. After Rome, he went straight to practice. He went to improve things he did badly in Rome and that’s why he’s in the final right now.”

“I can’t predict the future,” says Rafael Nadal ahead of clash against Novak Djokovic
On the difference between the match against Diego in Italian Open and the match here, the Spaniard said, “Different scenario, first of all. Second thing, I’m a little bit more prepared. Rome (Italian Open) had been my first event after 6 months. Was the first challenge against Diego. Today, the experience of Rome helped me in some way. Because I was able to take a look at the match. And analyse the things that worked well and things that didn’t work.”
“So we tried to go on the court with a plan, with the right determination. And in some way, I think I played the match right, tactically. In general terms, I’m supper happy about the match. It has been a important victory for me,” he continued.
Nadal will try to battle past the World No.1 to lay claim to his 13th French Open title. Although, Djokovic leads their head-to-head meetings won by a difference of 4, Nadal has dominated on the clay surfaces. Even against a worthy contender like Novak, Rafa has managed to come out on top 17 times, losing only 7 times to the Serb.
On his upcoming finals clash against Novak Djokovic, he said, “The only thing I know is that to play against Novak I need to play my best. Without playing my best tennis situation is very difficult. I have been playing well, but at the same time, he has an amazing record too. Playing in the finals rounds almost every single time. He’s one of the toughest opponents possible. But I am here to try my best.”
