The emergence of LIV Golf in Adelaide created a buzz among Australian golf enthusiasts, with the 54-hole tournament delivering an array of exciting moments and a festive atmosphere. Among these moments, Chase Koepka’s Watering Hole ace stands out as a lasting memory for casual golf fans. However, the event’s aftermath has led to discontent among some members of The Grange Golf Club, who were unprepared for the repercussions of hosting the fledgling league’s event.
Reports from Adelaide-based news outlet, The Advertiser, reveal that the club members are incensed over the harm caused to the course by the temporary installations and excessive beer consumption around the Watering Hole.
As a result of the event, the course was compromised for six weeks, which has left several members feeling disgruntled. This, given the hefty club fees exceeding $4,000 a year, not including an initiation fee of $7,500, is understandable.
The Grange welcomed over 60,000 patrons during LIV Golf Adelaide, with the club anticipating some wear and tear. However, the extent of the damage caused was beyond what they had imagined. In a bid to ease potential backlash, members received free tickets to the event. However, the price paid by members is still deemed too high by many. Despite this, it is worth noting that the outrage is not shared by all, with a majority of members content with the tournament returning in the future.
The grange golf club members discontent
Although the majority of The Grange members are pleased with the LIV Golf Adelaide event, a handful are not. Craig, a 45-year member of the club, has expressed his displeasure with the event’s aftermath. Many other members share his worries about the course damage, which they believed was unacceptable.
Barry Linke, the General Manager of The Grange Golf Club, understands the outrage and acknowledges the damage caused. However, he believes that the event was more than worth it and hopes that the club can continue hosting it.
The introduction of LIV Golf Adelaide has certainly stirred up some buzz within the Australian golfing community. According to Golfdigest, while it’s brought a fresh wave of excitement, there have been a few disgruntled members at The Grange Golf Club due to the damage caused on the course.
The impact of this damage is expected to be long-lasting and may require significant time for full recovery. Despite this setback, most members seem content with the event and are optimistic about future opportunities to host LIV Golf.
